Biography
British soul/funk trio the Kane Gang formed
in 1982 in the north of England.. Vocalists Martin Brammer
and Paul Woods and multi-instrumentalist Dave Brewis met
through several area bands; along with local acquaintances
Prefab Sprout, they were signed to the local Kitchenware
label, which led London Records to sign the Kane Gang in
1984. Their debut album, The Bad and Lowdown World of the
Kane Gang (released in the U.S. as simply Lowdown), was
released in 1985 and spawned several minor U.K. hit singles,
including the Top 20 "Closest Thing to Heaven." 1987's slicker
Miracle sported several more minor hits, including "Motortown."
