Biography
The roots of British pop-soul combo JoBoxers
lie in the final incarnation of Subway Sect, the backing
band of punk-era singer Vic Godard. Clad in second-hand,
street-urchin clothes, JoBoxers made their debut on the
BBC television program Oxford Roadshow, signed to RCA records
in 1983. Their debut single Boxer Beat cracked the
UK Top Five, and its follow-up, Just Got Lucky, reached
the Top Ten as well.Subsequent singles did less well.In
the wake of the LP Like Gangbusters the group's commercial
appeal dwindled, and upon releasing their 1985 effort Skin
and Bone, JoBoxers disbanded.
